Jennifer Higgins has launched Miss Oops together with her mother, Terry Goodwin, with a mission of providing women with beauty saving, problem solving products that make life easier.

Prior to motherhood, Jennifer Higgins was an award winning journalist for ten years. She also spent some time in pharmaceutical sales before putting her business days behind in exchange for “baby days” at home. As a full time mother of two small children, it wasn’t long before Jennifer was thinking of ways to simplify her life. Seeking to combine her passion for motherhood with her savvy business experience, Jennifer Higgins recognized that there was a consumer demand for problem solving products and sought out to create a brand dedicated to this purpose.

In this interview, Jennifer Higgins talks to Marta Walsh about how the concept for Miss Oops was born, some of the most common Oops moments women experience and how she learns about them, her favorite Miss Oops products, which Miss Oops products are hot for spring, and her beauty secrets.

How was the concept for Miss Oops born?
The concept of Miss Oops was born when I was buying a black dress to wear to a friend’s wedding. The one I selected at the boutique had deodorant streaks all across the front of the dress. The woman helping me removed a piece of foam off a hanger and rubbed it against the white marks. They quickly disappeared! However, when I got my dress back from the dry cleaners, the area in which she had rubbed was damaged (the type of foam was not the correct type to use) – this incident sparked my first idea to create the Miss Oops Rescue Sponge.

How would you describe your role at Miss Oops?
I am currently the President of Miss Oops and I also launched this company with my mother, Terry Goodwin. I am very involved in every step of the way including creating the products, distributing the products and overseeing all marketing and strategic efforts.Where do you draw your inspiration when creating your products and what is the creative process like?
The concept for all of the products is simple: attractive, tote-friendly products that offer practical solutions to everyday problems. What are some of the most common ‘Oops’ moments women experience and how do you learn about them?
All of our products are created based on some “oops” moments that we have had ourselves or that our close family or friends have been through. Some of the most common moments for women on a daily basis are getting deodorant marks on their clothing, showing their backside while bending over wearing low rise jeans, or revealing too much cleavage in a low-cut top. Everyone has their own “oops” moment every day and I love hearing about different consumers stories – it inspires me to create new products.Which Miss Oops products are your personal favorites?
The Miss Oops Rescue Sponge. I’m probably partial to this partly because it was our first product but also because I still use it all the time. Not just to remove deodorant marks, but tons of things including a variety of smudges from my kids clothing.Which Miss Oops products are most requested by your customers?
That’s a tough one. It really depends on the type of customer asking for a product. From pregnant women, we get more requests for Popper Stoppers. From beauty-junkies, Pedicure In a Bottle is the most requested. Still, the Rescue Sponges and Mishap Tape seem to be requested by all our customers. It also depends on the season. Right now with spring here, our Boob Tubes and JAKs are our #1 sellers.

Which new Miss Oops products do we expect to see in the upcoming seasons?
We have some three new products coming out for the summer 2009 season that are beauty-focused items. They include the following items:
Goblet Goop ($25.00)—Sunshine doesn’t stop when it reaches your neck—neither should your sunscreen. A moisturizing and firming neck cream, Goblet Goop protects and firms the delicate skin of the neck with SPF 30, algae, yeast, rosemary and Echinacea extracts, helping skin retain moisture while enhancing firmness and promoting collagen. Protect your goblet and keep the dreaded turkey neck at bay with Goblet Goop.

Block Your Locks ($14.00)—Hair color fading fast? Don’t knock your locks—Block Your Locks with Miss Oops. The SPF 15 finishing spray prevents color from fading between hair appointments from sun exposure. Just style your hair as usual, then spray a light coat of Block Your Locks on hair, paying special attention to the ends. The non-greasy, lightweight formula is an affordable way to extend the life of your hair color.

Air She Blows ($8.50)—Does it ever seem like eye shadow ends up everywhere but your lids? From under your eyes to on your white shirt, that pesky powder can get on everything—and nothing screams “look at my crow’s feet!” like sparking shadow stuck in your foundation. Miss Oops blows the problem away with Air She Blows, a concentrated burst of air that instantly disperses the powder. No tugging, no smudging, no pore-clogging—the simple solution whisks mineral makeup and other loose powder away with a single puff.

What is your best kept beauty secret?
Sleep and water. I guess these aren’t really “beauty secrets” but they are the two that do the most wonders for me. And that says A LOT because I have tons of beauty products and love using them all.

What is your philosophy about beauty?
My philosophy about beauty is that every woman should have products in her life that make their everyday routine just a little bit easier. We always ensure that we design and create all of the Miss Oops products to provide multi-tasking benefits at an affordable cost for all women.

What other passions do you have besides Miss Oops?
I have many including spending time with Jack & Sam, reading, cooking, running, and sleeping.
