When did your interest in hair design begin?
That’s a great question, years after I had been doing hair I found an old roll of film that was undeveloped so I took it in and when I got the pictures back I was shocked….. the roll of film had images of different hairdos of all the girls in the neighborhood that I designed, I was 10-years old and doing photo-shoots in my room, not really knowing that I was going to love hair design and photography.

What was your biggest break as a professional hair stylist?
The biggest break was when I was 16 and had quit another career which was dancing with the American Ballet Theater and I had to get another job. I met Arthur Johns who was one of the biggest hairstylist in the 60s and 70s with clients like chaka Kahn and Olivia Newton John and Tina Turner. We met and fell in love with one another and I ended up working for him for four years and learned a lot from him. He is one of the most talented hairstylists that I know to date.

How do you go about choosing a hair style for a celebrity?
I listen, observe and communicate.

We love your red carpet looks, what is your secret for creating that effortless glamour hair?
I believe that in any job that is creative its about a collaborative effort, making sure that the hair never overpowers the woman and that the woman always shines thru. I use very little product so the hair always has movement and bounce and doesn’t feel stiff and matt. Shine creates youth and body and movement creates sexuality.

What have been some of your most memorable celebrity collaborations?
I always love working with Sienna Miller and Kiera Knightly and Jenn Garner. They allow me to be creative.

What are some of your favorite hairstyles of all time?
There are so many:

Bridgett Bardot sexy and soft, Grace Kelly elegant and chic, Dolly Parton adventurous and confident.

To what do you attribute your success in becoming one of Hollywood?s most sought after hairdressers?
Humility.

What tips can you give us for picking the right shampoo and conditioner?
There are so many to choose from now days so make sure you understand your hair type, etc. Do you have fine hair or thick hair or kinky hair….this makes a big difference in what shampoo and conditioner would be right for you. Fekkai has a very wide range of shampoos and conditioners that I love that would fit almost all hair-types out there…. Experiment till you find the one that makes your hair soft and shiny without leaving too much residue or buildup on your hair.

What are some of your must-have products for creating that perfect blow out?
A perfect root builder like Bouffant by fekkai or Bumble and Bumble thickening spray. A great light silicone based glossing cream to protect your hair from heat.

A great round brush like Ibiza natural boar bristle brushes. I think they are the best in the market.You can get them on Amazon.com

Lastly a great blow-dryer, a lightweight one so you dont get tired. I love the T3 lightweight one called Evolution.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
Traveling, doing what I love which is hair, and being around people you like.

What city in the world is most inspirational to you?
I find inspiration everywhere.

What’s next for Adir Abergel?
I wish I knew I like to live in the now and not in the future but I know that theres much more to come, we’ll both wait and see.
